St Luke’s Church Bath, Children and Families Minister

We are a friendly, medium-sized local church on the south side of the city with a desire to serve God and our community.  We are seeking to appoint a Children and Families Minister who has the vision to shape and
oversee the church’s work with children under 11 and their families.  We are looking for someone who is energetic, innovative and imaginative, with the ability to come alongside parents, enthuse children, and equip and encourage church helpers.

Hours: part time – 18 hours per week including Sunday mornings. Some flexibility in working hours necessary to accommodate possible other weekend or evening work or events such as holiday clubs.

Contract: initially for two years, but subject to extension if funding allows, starting ASAP

Salary: Depending upon experience, salary level is based on JNC point level 13 -14 (£23,023 – £23,484) pro-rata (Actual £11,516 – £11,742)

Principal purposes of the role:

• to look at and then implement ways in which St Luke’s can engage more actively and helpfully
with families who have young children under 11, through events held at the church and through
other activities
• to act as focal point for children and families at St Luke’s and promote this aspect of ministry,
communicate to and enthuse the church family
• to build, lead and support a team of volunteers to help deliver and sustain the work with
families and young children at and through St Luke’s

There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) that the holder of this post is a Christian. ref:
Equality Act 2010 part 1, as this is a Christian ministry post. This post is also subject to a successful enhanced DBS check.

It is the intention of St Luke’s to look at also appointing a part-time Youth Worker to engage with young people aged 11-18. Working with this age range is usually seen as requiring a different skill set from those who work with younger children and there are obvious advantages in having two people working with young people at the Church. However, if you are looking for a full-time job rather than a part-time job and you feel you could fulfil both roles then please mention this in your application and discuss it with us at interview.
